China’s Fastest Trains Halted by a Cigarette
Remember the world’s newest and fastest train started running recently in China? Check this out:
BEIJING — China has unveiled what it says is the fastest rail link in the world, but the train came to a screeching halt this week, leaving thousands of passengers stranded — thanks to a law-breaking smoker.
The cigarette smoke triggered a fire alarm Tuesday on the train connecting the southern economic hub of Guangzhou to the central city of Wuhan — a journey now made at an average speed of 350 kilometres (217 miles) an hour.

The train, which was still in the station when the incident occurred, was able to leave Guangzhou two-and-a-half hours later after a series of safety checks, the official Xinhua news agency reported late Wednesday.

China continues to show it’s emerging dominance.
While the US talks about developing some, limited, high speed rail, China has already launched the world’s fastest train. It is also the world’s longest high-speed passenger train between Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province and Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province. The train travels at an average speed of 217 miles per hour.

The US must find the will to spend on infrastructure for the future. We have begun to admit that trains are part of the future not the past, but have yet to really take this head on.
