Model Train Information Needed for Starters

Before you start building a model train layout you will need a lot of information. You have a lot of decision to make about your layout. Model train information can be found several different ways. You can subscribe to magazines on train modeling, or go to the library. Most libraries have model magazines you can read for free. Also you can find model train books on any type or gauge of model train you may want to model. One of the most popular model magazines is the Model Railroader. This magazine stated it publication in 1910. Get as much information as you can, before beginning your layout. All of these books and magazines just give ideas of what you can model. Take the Fast Train to Vegas

DesertXpress High Speed Rail Service

DesertXpress High Speed Rail Service

Yes, the DesertXpress train from Victorville to Las Vegas is going to happen!

The federal government has issues final environmental clearance that will allow the project to proceed. This is on a path to be the first bullet train in the US.

One remaining hurdle is federal clearance for financing the $6 billion private project. DesertXpress is confident that finances will come through.

Luxury trains will transport passengers for $50 fares by 2015 along a 190 mile route that should take 80 minutes with speeds reaching 150 mph.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way

India continues high speed rail

India continues high speed rail

India yet again passes the US when it comes to high speed rail. Amazing how the US is the top economic country in the world, yet we are poorer than a country where millions are literally starving.

“Going ahead with its ambitious high-speed train proposal, Railways have joined hands with Japan to begin the ground work to reduce travel time by half on the Delhi-Mumbai corridor.” – see link.

Two Positive Transit Developments

Even in these budget crisis times, we occasionally see good news for transit and train supporters.  Today, I make note of two developments:

  • North Texas TEXRail – a Fort Worth, Grapevine and Dallas/Fort Worth Airport commuter line in development has a target date in 2016 for passenger service to begin. Read more here.
  • Dayton Florida – plans are underway to bring Amtrak service back to the east coast of Florida.  Read more here.

This is not where we want to be, it is not bullet or high speed rail, but it is a step in the right direction for those that want to see us become a greener, more energy dependent country.

Toy Model Trains

Toy Model Trains

Many of us have had toy model trains as children. We loved watching them go around the track (usually a simple circle or oval) and listening to the chug chug of the locomotive. Model train enthusiasts today, know that model railroading can be anything but boring. There are so many aspects to keep your attention that a lifetime is not enough to thoroughly explore them all. So how do you keep children interested? Read on for some ideas.
